The Book of Jasher (Sefer haYashar) debunked: There are several (as many as five) separate works by this title, all composed aroundAD.

The book of Jasher is mentioned in scripture. By that we can know at some point a genuine Book of Jasher did exist.

There are at least three books today with the title "Book of Jasher"/"Sefer HaYashar". One of these is a Hebrew book which was never intended to be identified with the Sefer HaYashar or the Bible. (Remember Sefer HaYashar means "The Upright Book").

Another "Book of Jasher" is a very bad English forgery published first in and again in File Size: KB. Sefer Ha-yashar, or, The Book of Jasher: Referred to in Joshua and Second Samuel: Faithfully Translated From the Original Hebrew Into English I Sefer hayashar book very happy with the quality of the book, I did see enough fading or trouble with the print so far.

I found the binding to look very professional/5(6). The Book of Jasher is the normal English name (used by e.g. the King James Bible) of a work known in the original Hebrew as Sefer haYashar, (ספר הישר; also transliterated Sēper haiYāšār).

It is the best-known of several "Lost books of the Old Testament", books referenced in the Hebrew Bible of which no copies are known to exist/5(). The Ralbag, on the other hand, suggests that the Sefer hayashar book Hayoshor was an extraneous history book, writing, “I think that Sefer Hayoshor was [a book] called by this name and it was lost during the exile.” The same argument surfaces in II Shmuel().

Sefer Hayashar needs no introduction. It has been quoted and referred to by Torah scholars through the ages. The introduction to the book describes the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the original manuscript during the destruction of the Second Beis Hamikdosh.

Sefer haYashar (Hebrew ספר הישר) means "Book of the Upright One", but Jashar is generally left untranslated into English and so Sefer haYashar is often rendered as Book of Jasher. Description: The Sefer haYashar (first edition ) is a Hebrew midrash also known as the Toledot Adam and Dibre ha-Yamim be-'Aruk.

The Hebrew title may be translated Sefer haYashar - "Book of the Upright" - but it is known in English translation mostly as The Book of Jasher following English tradition. The Book of Jasher and the Latter-day Saints Edward J. Brandt. It should also be noted that I have found in the Hebrew nine other works which also bear the title Sefer Hayashar (The Book of Jasher).

One is a fifteenth-century commentary on the Pentateuch. Sefer Hayashar, the Book of Righteousness, was probably written in the 13th century. The title is a Biblical one.

In Joshua we read concerning the miracle of the sun standing still: “Is not this written in the Book of Yashar?” Again in Second Samuel, we have the lament of David for King Saul and Jonathan: “Behold, it is written in.

Sefer Ha-Yashar (The Book of Righteousness); one of the most popular ethical books in the Middle Ages. It was frequently attributed to R. Tam, the tosafist, who wrote a book by a similar name. Some manuscripts attribute the book to Zerahiah ha-Yevani, but there is no evidence for this.

Others have suggested R. Jonah Gerondi as the author but his ideas are contradicted by Sefer Ha-Yashar. The Book of Jasher is the normal English name (used by e.g.
